Between 13th – 15th May, the Education team hosted our first ever educational event for healthcare professionals and allied health providers in the MENA region. This is an exciting addition to our Education Programme and a goal the TREAT-NMD Education Committee (TEC) set out to achieve some time ago to provide a high-quality educational opportunity for colleagues working in the neuromuscular field in the Middle East and North Africa.
The Masterclass Event consisted of three masterclasses: Gene Therapy, Spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Each masterclass featured sessions dedicated to the most up to date information on diagnosis, the patient and parent perspective, and standards of care as well as emerging therapies. Our delegates benefitted from interacting live with both local and international experts and there was much interaction between presenters and masterclass attendees during sessions and at networking breaks built into the programme.
The TREAT-NMD Education team would like to thank the TEC for creating such an excellent programme and for welcoming colleagues who are experts in their field to share and discuss the latest research, science and standards of care; we are incredibly grateful that they agreed to share their expertise and experiences. A huge thank you to Dr J. Andoni Urtizberea (Institut de Myologie, France), Prof. Dr. Annemieke Aartsma-Rus (LUMC, the Netherlands) and Prof. Dr. Liesbeth De Waele (UZ Leuven, Belgium) for being wonderful chairs of the event.
The feedback we have received already from delegates is incredibly positive with many commenting that the event was very well organised and that the sessions and speakers were excellent.
