Early diagnosis for Duchenne muscular dystrophy presents its own challenges in terms of both the clinical and psychosocial sphere. In July, TREAT-NMD hosted a discussion led by Michelle Lorentzos (Paediatric neurologist at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, Australia), Laurent Servais (Professor of Paediatric Neuromuscular Disease, University of Oxford, UK) and Julie Parsons (Paediatric Neurologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado, USA) where key opinion leaders and experts from across the globe considered the impact of an early DMD diagnosis on patients, their families and clinical practice. Participants agreed the need for an international consensus on a flexible framework to ensure the best model of care to support children and families following early diagnosis of DMD.
